General Properties

Butylglycol acetate is a chemical which commonly used as solvent. It is acetate of butylglycol. It has light sweet ester scent. It poorly dissolves in water, however, it can be mixed with  several organic solvents such as alcohol, ketone, aldehydes, ethers, glycols and glycol esters.

Production

Its production starts by reaction of ethylene oxide and n butyl alcohol. Then, it is put into another reaction; acetic acid, acid anhydrite and n acetyl chloride.

Applications

Butylglycol acetate is fundamentally used in coating business which are done in high temperatures. It provides liquidity and radience in coatings which are made in temperatures of 150-200°C. It can be used in print business as a compound of flexographic, gravure and screen paint ink.

Safety Measures and Toxic Values

Butyl acetate can go in to strong reactions with oxidizers and it is flammable. Therefore it must be stored in well-aired cool locaions and its containers must be closed tightly.

In case of exposure, it proves to be irritant. It may cause permanent damage to kidneys and blood cells if swallowed or inhaled.
