General Properties

Adipic acid or hexanoic acid is the most industrially important dicarboxylic acid. It is produced approximitely 2.5 billion kilograms per year.

Production

It is acquired by mixture of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol.

Applications

It is mainly manifactured for nylon production. Other common fields of use are also polymer productions. It is a monomer in polyurethane production.

Aside from these, it is also used in medical and food business.

Safety Measures and Toxic Values

Adipic acid, like other carboxylic acids, are irritant for skin. It is moderately toxic. It is advised to prevent it from contacting eyes. It must be stored under 30°C.
