General Properties

Amino Trimethylene Phosphoric Acid, or ATMP, is a chelation chemical that has perfect ion immobilizing capabilities, low threshold inhibition and cage decay process. Thanks to its consistent structure, it can remove most metal ion by encaging it in water systems. It is an excellent descaling agent. In high concentrations, it can be used as corrosion blocker.

Production

AMTP can be synthesized from Mannich reaction of formaldehyde and phosphoric acid, similar to Kabachnik-Fields reaction.

Applications

ATMP is commonly used in detergents and cleaning products, water purification facilities, solid surfaces and chelation processes.

Safety Measures and Toxic Values

ATMP can be abrasive for metal in certain concentrations. Therefore, it must be stored in containers that have innerlining and abrasive resistant coating.

It is also irritant for eyes and skin.
